Introduction

Queen Elizabeth II served as the Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms. She was also called the Head of the Commonwealth, Supreme Governor of the Church of England and the Defender of Faith. Queen Elizabeth was the longest reigning monarch in British history. Over 70 years, Her Majesty was a dedicated Head of the Commonwealth, linking more than two billion people worldwide. She was the only person in the United Kingdom allowed to drive without a licence.

Early life and education

Queen Elizabeth was named after her mother Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon. She was born on 21st of April in 1926 during the reign of her grandfather King George V. She had 2 middle names Alexandra and Mary. So her full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. A fun fact is that her childhood nickname was Lilibet. She had a sibling named Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. Queen Elizabeth lived in Buckingham Palace (which is in London) for most of her life and then she moved to Windsor Castle which is in London. When her father King George VI died in 1952 she became the queen of the commonwealth at the age of 25.

Family

Queen Elizabeth’s mother is Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon) and her father is George VI. The queen has 4 children from oldest to youngest is Prince Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. The queen's favourite child is Prince Edward. She also had 8 grandchildren including Prince William and Prince Harry.

Marriage

Queen Elizabeth married one of her cousins Prince Philip Mountbatten of Greece and Denmark when she was 21 years old. Her marriage was held on the 20th of November in 1947 in Westminster Abbey. Prince Philips died on the 9th of April 2021 at the age of 99. 

Hobbies and Interests

Queen Elizabeth had a huge passion for animals, her favourite breed of dog is the corgi. She owns more than 30 of them. And she also loved horses. The queen had also had some hobbies which include gardening and stamp collecting. Her favourite foods were finger sandwiches, smoked salmon and egg mayonnaise. Her favourite colour is blue and her favourite movie is Flash Gordon. The queen's favourite flower is the lily of the valley. A fun fact is that her favourite football team is called Arsenal.

Her Jubilees

A jubilee is a particular anniversary of an event, usually denoting the 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th, and the 70th anniversary. And Queen Elizabth II has got the silver, golden, diamond and platinum ones.

Support and Service

Queen Elizabeth has helped the world a lot. She supported more than 600 charities. And she was a mechanic and a taxi driver in World War II. She has also welcomed over 110 prime ministers and presidents over to the UK to visit. The queen also went to 117 different countries in the world out of the total of 193. Because of this she has covered at least 1,032,513 miles. She has visited New Zealand 10 times already!

Death

Queen Elizabeth died on the 16:30 8th of September in 2022 she died in Balmoral Castle (Scotland) at the age of 96 years old. Her funeral was held in Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September. And she was buried in King George VI Memorial Chapel (Buckingham Palace) alongside her husband, father and sister.
